We gathered under evening skies,
With bats and balls and hopeful eyes.
Against bold Dorking we took our place,
With grit, good cheer, and steely grace.
The game began with pace and flair,
Our bowlers sharp, precise, aware.
Each over brought its share of fire,
Fuelled by teamwork and desire.
New to the fold, young Ruby shone,
With steady hands and spirit strong.
She bowled with poise, she swung the bat—
A rising star, no doubt of that!
In the field, the catches flew,
With Trina’s safe hands sticking true.
Then Caroline, in juggling style,
Snatched one that made the whole team smile.
Fiona’s overs—tight and neat,
Just missed the stumps by inches sweet.
A tidy spell, with pressure high—
She gave those batters reason to sigh!
Then came our turn to chase the score,
With courage, drive, and so much more.
Liz and Trina took the crease,
Their steady start a sign of peace.
Two mother-daughter duos next,
With bonds that can’t be over-texted.
Ruby with Sarah—strong and spry,
Then Flo and Ness gave it a try.
They batted bravely, stood their ground,
With every run the cheers would sound.
A partnership of heart and pride,
They faced the bowlers, side by side.
To close, came Caroline and Fi,
With eyes on runs and spirits high.
They fought till Dorking’s final shout,
Our chase fell short—but not our clout.
Though victory wasn’t ours tonight,
We played with joy, we played with might.
So here’s to Ruby’s dazzling start,
And to a team with so much heart.
We’ll train, we’ll laugh, we’ll swing again—
Next week we take on Reigate’s den.
With every game, we rise, we grow...
Softball queens with hearts we are aglow
