Some days you turn up to the ground just hoping to avoid a hosing. On 5 September 2026, Outwood CC turned up and won the entire division in front of the home crowd.

Middleton Sets the Tone

Outwood won the toss and elected to bat, and it didn't take long to see why. A. Middleton walked in and simply took the game away from Penshurst, cruising to a magnificent 103 — the only century of the match and, frankly, the only stat anyone at the clubhouse bar will be talking about this week.

He didn't do it alone. M, Malley (54*) and J. Wiley (45) both played their part, with M. Lane (40) adding useful runs in the middle order. Between them, Outwood posted a commanding 287/7, setting Penshurst a target that always felt just out of reach.

On the bowling side for Penshurst, Semons worked hardest with a superb 5/39, genuinely the kind of spell that wins most teams the match, just not this one.

Penshurst Fall Short

Chasing 288 to win, Penshurst got a solid platform from openers D. Irens (78) and T. Rimmer (49), but the required rate crept up and the middle order couldn't kick on fast enough. L. Evans was the pick of the Outwood bowlers with a tidy 2/30, while B. Cleaver chipped in with 1/47. Penshurst finished up on 196/3, well short of what was needed.

A 91-run win on the day was impressive enough. But the timing made it sweeter, this result confirmed Outwood CC as KCVL Division 1 Champions for 2026. Cue the scorebook getting a special "CHAMPIONS" entry in block capitals (scorers, never change), and cue a well-earned round or two at the bar.

Massive credit to every player who pulled on the shirt this season and to Middleton for making sure the title party had a headline act. Roll on next season, when we get to do it all again with a target on our backs.
