On a balmy summer evening at Outwood Cricket Club, the stage was set for a Slam showdown full of flair, fun, and fabulous cricket as Outwood Blazes hosted Lingfield CC - Women's 1st XI.
Batting first, Lingfield brought the fireworks. Amy Pollard was all elegance and timing, retiring on a stylish 42 off 30 balls*, while skipper Martha Rousou added some serious sizzle with a rapid-fire 35 off just 20*. Victoria Todd played the perfect supporting role with a calm and collected 24 off 29*, guiding Lingfield to a commanding total.
Outwood’s bowlers toiled with heart, and Rachel Walters even pulled off a sharp run-out to break the opening stand. The fielding unit kept the energy high, with plenty of encouragement and a few cheeky grins along the way.
In response, Outwood’s batters showed grit and glimpses of brilliance. Jane Stapleton struck a confident 16, and Rachel Walters added a spirited 12 at the close.* Though the scoreboard pressure proved a bit too much, the Blazes never let the fun fade.
With sunshine, sportsmanship, and plenty of smiles, this match was a celebration of everything great about grassroots cricket. Lingfield may have taken the win, but both teams left the field with heads high and spirits higher.
