This Week in Our History (May 2nd - May 9th)

Outwood vs. Bromley Common - May 9th, 1981

On May 9th, 1981, Outwood played a home game against Bromley Common. It was a strange batting card where the third highest batter scored just 7, but fortunately, numbers 5 and 6 (Murray and Vicars) scored 80 and 74 respectively to rescue OCC from 20-4, putting on 144 for the fifth wicket and reaching a total of 182. Despite a good effort in the field, Bromley Common took 45 overs to knock off the runs, resulting in a 5-wicket defeat for Outwood.

Outwood vs. Falconhurst - May 2nd, 2009

On May 2nd, 2009, Outwood played a home game against Falconhurst. Outwood batted first, posting 141 runs with Mike Cleaver, Henry Van Der Walt, and Ian Milton each scoring in the twenties. Despite the comparatively low score, it was enough thanks mainly to superb figures from Ian Milton. His figures of 9 overs, 1 maiden, 6 for 31 included 5 bowled and one catch by George Beach. It was clearly a devastating spell as Falconhurst fell from 52-2 to 79 all out. Murray, Hall, and Baldry, along with a run out, were responsible for the other four wickets, and the game finished at five to seven.

Outwood vs. South Nutfield - May 9th, 2018

On May 9th, 2018, Outwood travelled 'down the road' for their first ever outing in the Surrey Slam and for a derby encounter with South Nutfield. Batting first, Outwood posted 132 for 8 off their 20 overs. The innings was steady at around a run a ball before number 7 batter Marcus Malley bashed 32 from 15 deliveries, including 3 sixes and 1 four. Despite feeling that the total might not be enough, Outwood's bowling was exceptionally tight. All five bowlers (Messrs Norman, Talbot, Mawer, Evans L & Tunstall) went for 5 an over or less. As South Nutfield tried to hit out to increase the run rate, Lucas took 4 for 18 and Dru took 3 for 19, leading Outwood to a convincing 35-run win.
