Outwood again batted first in the second of two back-to back 20-over games, this time starting with the young opening pair of Lucas Evans and Dru Tunstall. They appeared to be hampered less than the Graveney bowlers by the after-effects of one of Lesley's mega teas and batted with great solidity and maturity in putting on 43 for the first wicket. When Dru was caught in the deep for 16, Alex Wood returned to blast another 38 in just 21 balls. Lucas looked a different player to the one frequently caught lofting the ball early on last year and went on to complete his 35 in 31 balls before retiring. The Malleys both reached double figures in good time but the momentum was maintained by Simon Williams, atoning for his golden duck in the first game with a fine 28 in 21 balls. 170 in 20 overs was going to take some getting against the Outwood bowling attack.
And so it proved, especially after Lucas Evans took 3 for 10 in his first 3 overs to leave Graveney struggling. Jon Stockley and Alex Wood grabbed a wicket each while Ellis Peacock - a little rusty and far from his best - picked up 2. Once again the wrist spin of Ollie Howell caused the visitors considerable difficulty and he finished off the Graveney innings inside 14 overs with 3 for 11.
There will be sterner tests to come but nevertheless a very enjoyable afternoon and a great way to start the season.
