The 2nds completed the perfect start to their league season with two wins from two. Outwood won the toss and elected to field on a dry but patchy wicket with rain in the air. Horsmonden started solidly and had 60 on the board in the 19th over before the second wicket went down. The Outwood bowlers then steadily tightened their grip with each new bowler returning better and better figures despite bowling with a wet ball in light rain. Jeremy Charlesworth's 1 for 5 in 5 overs looked impressive until Hamish Bignell grabbed the headlines on his 2nd XI debut by taking the last 3 Horsmonden wickets for just 3 runs in 1.3 overs.
With dark shower clouds around, the Outwood openers were in no mood to hang around. Paul Howard (42) and Nat Hiscocks (36 no) put on 77 in 14 overs for the first wicket with only a brief pause for rain before Keith Hall (9 no) joined Nat to finish the job with just one wicket down. Life will undoubtedly get tougher in the weeks ahead but you can only beat what's in front of you, as they say, and the 2nds have certainly done that so far.
