After a week of typically unpredicatable weather, it was with some relief that President's Day dawned clear and dry, and stayed that way for the rest of the day.
Winning the toss, the President's XI opted to bat to give their line up first use of the wicket.
The decision seemed to be vindicated with 22 runs coming at a run a ball for the first four overs. However, 1st XI skipper Russell Watts applied the brake taking three wickets in the space of five of his balls reducing the President's XI to 34-3 inside eight overs.
Thereafter the President's XI never really got back on track. Williams and Donovan put up stuborn resistance, scoring 65 from 59 balls and 35 from 50 balls respectively, but the loss of wickets from the other end kept the overall score in check with the innings closing on 150, with eight overs unused. Something to bowl at, but definately an under par score.
The 1st XI reply stuttered somewhat with Henry vd Walt and Ben Cleaver out cheaply, Ben to a sharp caught behind by brother Jac. Middleton compiled a carefully crafted 77, but further wickets at the other end meant that the 1st XI never looked like running away with the game. The champagne moment came when Jac took his dad's wicket, stumped for 30.
By then only 20 runs were needed and with five wickets remaining and over 10 overs to get them, it was left to Middleton and Tunstall to ease the 1st XI to a comfortable victory.
Club team mates and friends from other clubs combined to play a great game of cricket with plenty of rivalry and laughter reminding us of what a great game cricket is and that Outwood is a fantastic place to play it.
