Outlaws mown down by Hackers

In the end, it was not to be. The Outwood run in the 2019 Slam ended on Monday night at Horley

Winning the toss, the Outlaws captain Matt Norman opted to field. Batting first the Hackers, raced to the first forty at a run a ball for the loss of no wickets. The Outlaws tightened their bowling, bringing four wickets before the 60 came up, Louis Russell Watts being particularly frugal ending with three wickets for 12 in his four overs. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and Horley found it increasingly difficult to score. Their innings closed on 119 all out - a score that seemed unlikely after the first five overs.

The Outlaws would have felt confident that they could chase the score down, even on a large ground where boundaries were difficult to come by. The Hackers bowling was tight, only 5 wides and 4 no-balls, and scoring was difficult for our lads. Will Blease top scored with 37, but used up three or four lives before he holed out on the boundary - a shot that at the 'Wood would have ended up in Willy's car park!

Sadly we ran out of overs and batsmen and ended up falling short by 21 runs.

So our Slam adventure is over for now and we can focus on our main league competitions where there is still plenty to play for.
