Outwood Outlaws will play in the Slam Plate finals day after overpowering the Headley Dragons in Friday's quarter final with a Max Evans 3-fer and a Max Stenberg 52 (from 22 balls).
Winning the toss, skipper Dru Tunstall opted to bowl. Opening bowlers Lucas and Matt kept the runs to 50 in the first ten overs with tight bowling. Lucas was particularly economical taking a wicket with his final ball of his fourth over. He had the Calvert, the bigger hitting of the Headley openers caught by Laurence Williams. With Calvert gone, wickets fell at regular intervals, checking any chance for Headley to accelerate in the final ten. Max (Evans) closed out the Headley innings with three wickets closing the game with three wickets for six runs. The target was set . The Outlaws needed 139 to win.
In reply the Outlaws response was kept in check by a display of controlled bowling from the Dragons opening pair of Allen and Lucas. The normally fluent Laurence top edged to point, Ben Cleaver (six from six) was caught and skipper Dru was bowled for 28 from 33 with the score on 60 in the 9th over.
Harry Crawford was joined at the crease by Max Stening and in six overs supercharged the Outlaws to the target. Harry played superbly to nudge the singles and give Max the strike - and did he strike! His 52 was hit from 22 balls including 3 fours and 6 sixes. The 50 partnership came up in 27 balls with Harry scoring eight from nine balls and Max 42 from 18 balls.
The onslaught took the fire from the Dragons' and it was left to Ashley and Harry to close out the game and take Outwood to the Slam Finals day for the first time since the inaugural year in 2018
