Outlaws Overwhelm Hombres

The Outwood 'Outlaws' took the honours with a comprehensive win in our first outing of the 2022 Slam.

Two months of fine and dry weather could only mean one thing. A rain affected match, and so it proved to be.

The Outlaws won the toss and elected to bat, just as the drizzle started. Opener, Laurence Williams was particularly effective, plundering 53 runs from 18 balls before retiring. Ben Cleaver was almost as effective taking 23 balls to reach 51.

Lower order hitting (Lucas Evans - 19 from 8 and Adeen Gill 18 from 7) lifted the Outlaws to 184 when the heavens opened with 14 overs gone.

After the rain break, the Outlaws were given 14 overs to reach their target of a DLS adjusted 191 (easy to say, not so easy to calculate).

Tight bowling from the Outwood attack kept the brakes on Hermes ability to score with Jonathan Wylie (2 for 10) and Max Evans (2 for 15) being particularly effective.

In the end a comfortable 126 run win. There will be tougher games to come, but by taking the opportunities presented to boost net run rate in a division that could be tight come mid June they have optimised their chances of progressing to the knockout phase of the competition.
