Surrey Slam: Blazes v Streatham & Marlborough

The Blazes played their very first game in the Surrey Slam on Sunday 19th May against Streatham & Marlborough CC (SMCC). Captain Marianna Graham won the toss and elected to field in lovely sunny conditions. SMCC started off strongly and continued hitting the ball well within the gaps to finish on 187/1. Blazes opening bowler Lauren Waddington took only wicket of the match finishing on 26/1 off 4 overs.

Blazes went into bat full of optimism and started strongly with Lauren and Marianna opening the batting. Marianna fell cheaply to a dubious LBW decision on 1. Kate Woolmer came in at 3 and was the driving force behind the batting, batting sensibly and ensuring she was still out there at the end of the day. Kate finished on 12 not out and top scored for the team followed closely by Lauren who made 11. Unfortunately for Blazes the SMCC bowling proved too strong and Blazes finished all out for 37 with one ball to spare in the innings.

The next Surrey Slam match for Blazes will be on 23 June 2019 at home against Sutton CC.
